In Northern Tunisia, the women of the Sejnane region have inherited a craft handed down from generation to generation, mother to daughter, passed down for thousands of years. These clay motifs exhibit the Berber traditions and origins made from all natural elements that are unique to the environment in Sejnane. Each crafted solely by hand and using an ancient wood firing technique that may take days to produce. As such, not one of these treasures are alike. The work of these women artisans has been recognized by the UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. This tortoise is one of the many distinctive potteries hailing from this region.
