Antique Moroccan Terracotta Coastal Olive Jar - Medium

These antique Moroccan pots were discovered in late 2019 on one of our expeditions. I searched every day for them and was told by vendors throughout Morocco that they could no longer be found anymore because all of the antique pots had been exported to Europe. We finally found one guy who had a yard that had remained closed for years. When the gates opened, we can't tell you how thrilled we were. We found old jars that were used for the preservation of dates and olives. There was that long length of time when olive oil was not processed for export, bottled, and shipped. It was stored only in jars, the design of which helped to keep the oil fresh. We know that these particular olive jars come from desert regions. We know this because of their cylindrical shape and the fact that they aren't glazed. These were typically buried in the sand to preserve the olives at the market.
