13.5"W x 4"D x 24"H - Africa - Wood
This antique African mask is a Baule mask typically worn at Goli rituals. The people that would wear the masks would be the highest ranked individuals in the tribe or it was worn to be not under spirit control during funerals. It is also used in tribal dances during harvest festivals and processions that honor distinguished visitors. The circular face represents the life-giving force of the sun and the horns symbolize the great power of the buffalo.
