Vintage Moroccan Terracotta Coastal Jar-Large
12"W x 12"D x 27"H - Morocco - Terracotta
These antique Moroccan pots were discovered in late 2019 on one of our expeditions. After searching every day for them, and being told by vendors throughout Morocco that they were not to be found anymore (because all of the antique pots had been exported to Europe) we finally found one guy who had a yard that had remained closed for years. When the gates opened, we can't tell you how thrilled we were. We found old jars used for the preservation of dates and olives like this. There was that long length of time when olive oil was not processed for export, bottled, and shipped. Being stored in jars, the design of which helped to keep the oil fresh. We know that these particular olive jars come from desert regions because of their cylindrical shape and the fact that they are not glazed. These were typically buried in the sand to preserve the olives at the market.
